Brochures live for years — your links need to too

A brochure is not a social media post you can edit. Once printed, it sits in waiting rooms, trade show racks, retail shelves, and prospect folders for months or years. Every URL in it needs to work not just today, but for the full shelf life of the print run.

The most common issues we see on brochure links: landing pages moved to a new URL and the old path was never redirected; SSL certificates on product subdomains allowed to expire; PDF download links pointing to internal drives that are not publicly accessible; and short URLs created by a former employee whose account has since closed.

Run every URL in your brochure through PrintLink Checker before the file goes to print. For brochures with a long print life, consider scheduling a monthly check after launch — a broken link that appears six months in is just as damaging as one at launch.

Brochure link pre-press checklist

  All destination URLs return HTTP 200 — Confirm every page, PDF, and form link resolves to a live, accessible resource.

  Redirect chains are stable and short — Long redirect chains degrade over time. More than 2 hops is a risk for a long-lived print piece.
• ✓
  SSL certificates are valid and not expiring soon — A cert that's valid today may expire in 3 months — mid-brochure-lifecycle.
• ✓
  PDF and file downloads are publicly accessible — Links to spec sheets, catalogs, or forms must be accessible without a login.
• ✓
  Landing pages match the brochure context — Confirm the title and description of each destination matches the section of the brochure it appears in.
• ✓
  UTM parameters present on campaign links — Even brochures distributed at trade shows benefit from source tracking.
