Missing UTMs mean your print traffic is invisible
When someone scans a QR code or types a URL from a printed flyer and hits a page with no UTM parameters, Google Analytics records that visit as direct traffic. It looks identical to someone typing the URL from memory. You lose all visibility into how your print campaign performed — how many people scanned, which flyer location drove the most visits, and whether print converted better than digital.
The fix is simple but easy to overlook. Every URL that appears on a physical marketing asset should have at minimum utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign. If you are running multiple flyer versions or locations, utm_content lets you distinguish between them.
PrintLink Checker reads the UTM parameters from your URL client-side, instantly, before you even pay for a full report. Paste the URL, see which parameters are present or missing, and fix them before your print files get sent to the printer.
UTM parameters to verify before print
- ✓utm_source — Identifies the print channel — e.g. flyer, menu, postcard, banner.
- ✓utm_medium — Set to "print" so GA can segment all print traffic in one view.
- ✓utm_campaign — Names the specific campaign — e.g. summer-sale-2025 or grand-opening.
- ✓utm_content (recommended) — Differentiates versions — e.g. flyer-a vs flyer-b, or location-downtown.
- ✓No spaces or special characters — Spaces and unencoded ampersands break UTM parsing in GA.
