Your business card is a first impression that lasts years

Business cards change hands at conferences, meetings, and chance encounters — and they get kept. A card given to a prospect today might be pulled out of a drawer to look you up six months from now. If the QR code points to a broken URL, an expired domain, or a LinkedIn profile that has since moved, that connection is lost.

Business card QR codes most commonly link to a personal website, a LinkedIn profile, a portfolio, or a scheduling page. All of these are vulnerable to changes: domains expire, LinkedIn URLs change when names change, portfolio platforms get discontinued, and Calendly links get rotated. Test the exact URL your QR encodes — not just the homepage of your site.

If you use a dynamic QR code (one where you can change the destination after printing), also verify that the redirect service itself is stable and will not lock you out or deactivate the code on a free plan. Free QR code tiers on some services expire after 30 days.

  Destination URL resolves to the right page — Not a homepage, not a 404 — the exact page you intend: portfolio, LinkedIn, scheduling link, etc.

  HTTPS is valid and not expiring within 6 months — Your card will be in circulation for a long time. A cert expiring soon will break mid-lifecycle.

  Page loads correctly on mobile — Every scan happens on a phone. Test with a mobile user-agent.

  No redirect loops — Redirects created during domain migrations or platform moves can chain incorrectly and stop resolving.

  Dynamic QR redirect service is stable — If using a service like Bitly or QR Tiger for a dynamic code, confirm the plan won't deactivate.

  Destination page reflects current information — Check the page title — confirm it still says what you think it says.
